Pattern Making 101
Like making your own clothes but have a hard time finding interesting patterns? Want to know how to get that perfect fit? Come learn the foundational concepts of pattern making through flat pattern drafting & 3D form alteration, and tailoring. Learn how to take proper measurements, adjust patterns, cut, in vestigate fit, and sew a muslin to create a custom pattern. Get on the way to stylizing the clothing you imagine!

Take your skirt pattern skills to the next level! Learn the basic fitting techniques to make your skirt patterns fit you and give it a little splash of style - In this class we will draft waistbands, circle skirts, a-line skirts, and flare skirts and make test fits to custom fit you!

All About Sleeves!
All About Sleeves is a great follow-up to Pattern Making 101 offering those skills to achieve that beautifully tailored garment. Topics of discussion will include
1) proper measuring of the arm and how to alter the pattern accordingly
2) how to calculate the perfect amount of sleeve cap ease
3) what to do with those elbow darts! and
4) common and popular sleeve designs
Working hands-on, students will develop their own reference pattern making notes. Course content will also include the construction of a set-in sleeve, continuous lap and cuff. This course will be jam packed with serious skills.
Our instructor, Wendy Eakins, is a former Instructor in Pattern Drafting & Construction at University of Fraser Valley, and at the University of Manitoba. She has worked as a pattern maker in manufacturing, and most recently over the last decade, worked as the Senior Cutter & Stitcher at Alberta Theatre Projects. She continues to work at Vertigo Theatre and Theatre Calgary, and she is looking forward to sharing her knowledge with us.

Welcome to Open Studio! Come work on your sewing and patternmaking projects in the beautiful Assemble/ Riyoko studio for an evening. Bring your projects to work on and spread them out on the long tables. Or, maybe you have projects that you have questions on? Assemble Designers, Kristi & Aileen will be in studio to help guide you through some ways you can take your projects to the next step. Got clothing you want to re-fashion? Discover what other possibilities those beautiful-but-not-quite-right pieces have in store for you! Bring a couple friends and a have a little fun getting creative!

Want to learn how to fix that broken zipper? Patch those sweater elbows? Sew on a button? Other repairs? Come by and we'll help you do it. Got a machine? Great! Bring it! Don't have one? No problem, we have a few for you to use. We will also have some sewing notions (zippers, odd buttons etc.) on hand if you aren't sure what you need. At Repair Cafe, we will guide you through how to fix your beloved garments and such. You'll learn a new skill, and your garment will get a renewed life! Drop in any time between 11 am and 5 pm on the last Saturday of every month.

Tired of all your patterns looking the same? Come learn ways to add and change the style in the details of the patterns that you sew through darts! In this class we will learn the two different pattern making methods to move a dart. We will learn how to create multiple darts, tucks, pleats, gathers and flares through flat pattern making and and muslins. Come explore the possibilities and get on your way to making original me-made pieces! Classes will take place at the Riyoko studio at cSpace. Next Class TBA.
